The guys over at Google Chrome have launched a series of adverts over the past few weeks showcasing different ways that the internet can be used. From a father setting up an email account for his daughter and writing to her every day until he shares the password with her to Dan Savage’s ‘it gets better’ project, they’ve all shown the potential to make what you want of the web. Lady Gaga’s ‘Edge of Glory’ video showcases all the things that any businesses wanting to make the most of the internet should be doing:
By recognising the work that her fans create, Gaga has managed to maintain a huge loyal fanbase. Engaging with her fans and using their work in videos has led to a natural online community being created – with ‘super’ fans or ‘monsters’ self-moderating and ensuring that anything which shouldn’t be out there is found and handled correctly.
Businesses can put their power users to work by opening up a little control of their online presence. From forums to Facebook, power users may only make up a small percentage of your community – but they’re the most influential resource that you have. Providing them with the correct material (FAQs, reliable content, content based rewards) will allow them to govern your community and ensure that the brand’s image is always being upheld.
