The World's best kept secret?

It has been almost impossible not to have heard of the latest celebrity scandal that have been filling cyberspace, the airwaves and more column inches than the recent royal wedding. With privacy laws in tatters and gagging attempts proving a spectacular failure, it would be remiss not to look at the nature of privacy, secrets and the fact that honesty would indeed seem the best policy.

secret–adjective

1. done, made, or conducted without the knowledge of others

2. kept from the knowledge of any but the initiated or privileged:

The footballer at the centre of this controversy and the ill-judged subsequent legal challenges had promoted over 70,000 individuals to name him on Twitter – this in response to attempts to silence users of the San Francisco-based corporation. Indeed, this is well and truly a case of closing the barn door after the horse has bolted. ‘Kept from the knowledge of any but the initiated or privileged’? – methinks not…  Can you silence the grapevine? I think the answer is clear for all to see.

Indeed, the footballer – who I’ll call Mr. X was explicitly named in the House of Commons provoking uproar just yesterday, but I’ll not be so bold as to do likewise..  ”Mr Speaker, with about 75,000 people having named $%3$ Ross on Twitter it is impractical to imprison them all …”

Similar to Chrysler’s recent attempts to deny that it was one of their users who dropped the ‘f-bomb’ on their Twitter, then subsequent efforts to cover up and apportion blame when the truth emerged, I believe that individuals and corporations are best served when they employ honesty – not just as a policy, but as a core value. Sure, companies and individuals can make mistakes, especially vis-a-vis Social Media, but especially for the former, online presence is vital and others failures should be viewed as lessons learned, not a deterrent. Mr. X is not the first celebrity or politician to have had his proclivities exposed, but a public apology would perhaps have taken the sting out the tail – rather than see the whole fiasco exacerbated by the actions of his legal team.

But yes, I did mention that I was going to reveal the world’s best kept secret, WWE Wrestling is actually a show, not a sport, difficult as that may be to believe. These guys are actors, but probably the best that the world has ever seen. There, you heard it from me first….
